[AS. naedle.] The sewing-needle is a small instrument of fine steel wire, pointed at one end, with an eye at the other to receive a thread. In needles for sewing-machines the eye is at the pointed end. The magnetic needle is a small piece of steel, pointed at both ends, and used in the mariner's compass. By its magnetic properties it is attracted and directed to the poles.
