[Arab.] A lofty, wide-spreading tree in the Indies, with flowers in racemes, pinnate leaves, and pods abounding in acid pulp of cooling and laxative qualities. West Indian tamarinds are preserved in sirup, but East Indian fruits are put up without sirup.
