A small song-bird belonging to the genus Motacilla, and so called because it jerks its tail up and down. The common water wagtail is also called the pied wagtail. It is mixed white and black in color, and lives on the edges of ponds and streams. The Wood wagtail is found in Asia, and has a slender bill and short legs.
