[From Worsted or Worstead, a village in Norfolk.] Wool twisted into thread used for knitting stockings. Long yarn is made by drawing, gilling, and combing. Short wools are first carded and afterwards combed. Worsted for carpet-yarns or knitting-yarns is carded only.
