Radial Faults are those in which the principal component of the movement has been upward, downward, or both, though subordinate movements of tilting and rotation frequently occur. However, it is not always possible to tell from the observed data, whether the chief movement was vertical or horizontal, for in certain circumstances the results are so deceptively similar. According to prevalent belief, the radial faults comprise the great majority of dislocations, and horizontal movements are comparatively rare, but-recent exact studies indicate that this opinion is at least an exaggeration and that horizontal movements are far from uncommon.
