Larceny is the felonious taking and carrying away of the personal goods of another.1

Another common law definition is, the wrongful and fraudulent taking and carrying away of the personal goods of another from any place, with a fraudulent intent to convert them to the taker's own use and make the goods his own property without the knowledge or consent of the owner.2

As defined by the statute of Illinois "larceny is the felonious stealing, taking and carrying, leading, riding or driving away the personal goods of another."3

Statutory definitions of larceny are generally the same as the definition at common law, with the exception that many things are included in the definitions which are not the subject of larceny at common law.
