The thing bet must be something of value, but the amount is not material.138
Something having intrinsic value must be bet or wagered on the game.139
Playing a game of cards for drinks as it is commonly called is held not to be gaming;140 but there are many cases holding the contrary.141
The thing bet may represent money. Thus the playing of a game with checks or chips on which the winner of the checks can obtain money from the operator of the game, is gaming for money.142
