Sunday is the first day of the week - the Lord's day, and is universally recognized by the law as the day set apart for the cessation of labor and business generally, especially any business which tends to disturb the peace and quiet of the public. Statutes exist in the several states prohibiting certain kinds of business being conducted on Sunday. These statutes are police regulations and have generally been upheld as not in conflict with the constitutional provisions of the State and Federal governments.90
