Contracts of subscription, whereby the promisor agrees to pay money if a certain work is completed by a specified time, such as a subscription to aid a railway;1 or an agreement to grant a right of way;2 or a subscription to induce the removal of a factory to a given city by a given time,3 are contracts of which time is of the essence.
