Apples are good for you. They say that "An apple a day keeps the doctor awav." So eat a lot of them.

Did you know that you could make your initial grow on an apple? This is the way to do it: While the apple is still on the tree, but before it is ripe, paste on it your initial cut from paper. Choose an apple that is in the sunshine. As it turns red, the spot under your initial will remain shaded. After you take off the paper your initial will be stamped on the apple.

Have you ever tasted an apple roasted on the end of a stick held over an open fire? Try it the next time you have an outdoor picnic, or in the fireplace at home. It will take a little while to roast it, but you will enjoy the treat.

If you can peel an apple in one strip, it will bring you good luck. Throw the strip over your shoulder, and the initial it will make will be that of one who loves you dearly.

An apple can be cut without a knife. Thread a needle with strong, thin thread, and sew it around the apple- in and out under the skin. Tie a knot in the two ends, and pull them tight.

Animal Game

Think of the name of an animal, then find another animal that begins with the last letter of the first animal. See how long you can keep going-naming new animals, and having each begin with the last letter of the one before it. No birds, fish, or insects are allowed. Begin with BEAR.

Number Plates

It is great fun, on a nice warm day, to sit out of doors, in front of your house, and collect the numbers of the cars that pass by. Take along a big sheet of paper, and a good sharp pencil. You will have to be quick. Say the number over to yourself, then quickly jot it down before you forget it.

If you live on a street where there are many out of state cars passing by, you might make a note of the name of the state on each number plate.

When you do start collecting the state plates you see, keep your notes with you every time you go out in the car. It is fun to see just how many out of state cars you see during the year. If you do a great deal of traveling, you may see plates from all forty-eight states.
