To fold and cut a star, you start with a square piece of paper. First fold it in half, then bring the right upper corner to the left side-a little below the center. Fold the left upper corner down across this piece. Next fold the left side to meet the right-straight through the center. Make a diagonal cut from a point half way down the left side to the right side point. (See illustration.) Open the paper and you should have a perfect five pointed star.

To make a chain of things fastened together, fold your paper in pleats-making the fold at each side of the paper, first starting with a strip, and folding the right side back, then the left. Continue turning back one side and then the other until the entire strip is used.

Leave a point on each folded side where there is no cut, and in this way your figures will be joined when the paper is unfolded. Keep this in mind when drawing a picture for the chain. Here are a few easy patterns you can trace or copy.

A Kitten Calendar

A kitten calendar makes a good present. First draw a cat. This is not hard.

Pussycats are really very easy to draw, especially if they are sitting back to you. All you need is a tiny circle for the head, and below that a larger one for the body. Draw two pointed ears, some whiskers, and a long tail.-The feet can not be seen if the cat is sitting this way.

When the cat is drawn, cut it out. Cover one side with paste. Sprinkle tiny bits of yarn on the paste-while it is still wet. Mix different colors of yarn to make it look like a kittens fur. (A black cat might have white spots, etc.)

After the yarn has dried put a ribbon around the cat's neck, and tuck the ends of the ribbon under the cat as you paste it down on a sheet of stiff colored paper. Then draw some whiskers. As the cat is sitting with his back to you, you do not need a face.

Put a small calendar on the bottom of the card, and a ribbon loop at the top and you will have a novel kind of calendar.

Things To Make From Paper

To make a paper drinking cup. Take a piece of paper-about 8 inches square, and fold it diagonally (Fig. 1). Then holding the folded edge toward you, fold the right hand corner so that the point just touches the middle of the left side (Fig. 2). Fold the left corner in the same way-to touch the right edge (Fig. 3). Now fold down the top points-one in back, and the other in front (Fig. 4). By pressing slightly on sides as you hold the model, you will find you have a small cup or container.

The blowers that are used for party favors are easy to make. All you need is a piece of paper-newspaper thickness. Cut a strip about twelve inches long and eight inches wide. Fold the long edge over about an inch, and keep folding this side over until you have a folded strip an inch wide. Then beginning at the narrow end, roll up the paper. Blow into the open end, and you will find the roll snaps out suddenly.
