A simple form of back-rest suitable for au invalid when sitting up in bed is shown in the accompanyiug'sketch. For its construction good red deal, birch, or mahogany may be used. Make three frames similar to Fig. 1, the outer edges being rounded. These three frames are hinged together as shown at Fig. 2, the back frame having a slanting edge to fit into the notches of the bottom frame. A pair of iron or brass hinged stays, fixed at the sides, will prevent the sliding back from slipping.
