In removing from a keyless watch a cannon pinion that is fixed very tightly, if there is a square at the back take hold of it with a pair of cutting nippers in one hand and grasp the body of the cannon pinion with a pair of brass-nosed pliers held in the other hand, and twist the pinion off. If it cannot be removed in this manner, or if there is no square at the back to hold, the centre arbor must be punched through with a small-pointed punch that will .iust enter the cannon pinion without damaging it. The watch should rest on a stake or piece of boxwood with a hole in it under the centre arbor. One smart tap should send the centre arbor through.
