To oxidise silver chains to a good dark colour, dip them in a solution of potassium sulphide 24 grains, sal-ammoniac 40 grains, water lpt. For steel chains, dip them in sodium hyposulphate 200 grains dissolved in water 1 pt., then rub with sand or a scratch-brush. Repeat till the desired colour is obtained.
