To paint leather blak, first coat it with a solution of alum 1 oz., and water lpt. The next coat should consist of drop black 1/4 lb., ground in turps, and terebine 1/2 oz. Thin with turps. When this is dry give a final coat of drop black and Coburg varnish, mixed to the consistency of cream. For white paint use zinc white instead of black, and sugar of lead, ground fine, instead of terebine.
