This is a recipe for a paste for fastening cloth on the frames of carriages. It is known as coach trimmers' paste. Mix rye flour with cold water to a creamy thickness, and add a good proportion of powdered resin; then boil very slowly, continually stirring until the mixture is fairly thick. When cold the paste should be firm enough to cut with a knife, so that it can be spread on the cloth.
