Eyelet Stitch. This stitch is used for small eyelet-holes in embroidery. The working is usually very close overcasting, but sometimes a firm buttonhole is used instead where the material is inclined to fray. To work, first run one or two threads round the eyelet-hole to keep the threads together, and then work over these threads. This gives a raised effect to the work. Eyelet-holes are generally round, but not necessarily. The working is sometimes done first and the centre cut away afterwards.
