For this purpose you must be careful in selecting your wood. It should be as wide as the required tray without joining. Plane it up very smooth, and put a rim round made by slips of wood standing about ¼ inch above the surface. A device may ornament the centre, and smaller ones at the corners if you think fit. These devices can be patterned as we have already mentioned, in stains of various shades or left plain for somebody else to exercise their artistic tastes upon, in various colours.
