Family, Primrose. Color, pink or white. Calyx, tubular, 5-cleft, bell-shaped, giving the color to the flower. Petals, none. Stamens, 5, connected with the base of the calyx, alternate with the lobes. Leaves, fleshy, entire, sessile, opposite, linear, obtuse. Low, fleshy plants, much branched, the branches weak, drooping or prostrate, 2 to 8 inches high. Flowers, small, in the axils. June to August.
Sea - beaches, New Jersey northward, also in subsaline soil from Minnesota westward. More common on the Pacific than the Atlantic coast.
