Dubonnet is a type of the many so-called aperitifs which are so common in France and take the place of the cock-tail in this country. It is mildly bitter, decidedly alcoholic, and generally agreeable to the taste. The best appetizer in the world is hard work and reasonable abstention from too generous dining. Those who sit down to the table and are unable to eat until they have stimulated their stomachs by alcohols, bitters and spices, will do far better to fast than to feast.
