There are many incontestable evidences that epidemics of the most fatal sort have often been traced to the water supply. An alarming epidemic of typhoid fever occurred at Cornell University a few years ago. A very large number of the students of this University were ill with typhoid fever and unfortunately quite a large number lost their lives. The epidemic was of such a serious nature that it came near closing the doors of the institution.
