The Act of Congress relating to the control of foods and beverages during the war authorizes the President to limit the quantity of alcohol in beer. By proclamation the maximum content in beer has been limited to 2.75 percent by weight. This corresponds to 3.4 percent by volume. This is only a little under the usual quantity occurring in American beers. The limit of 2.75 percent by volume would be far more effective as a grain-saving measure. By a recent order beer making will cease Dec. 1, 1918.1
