The State of Illinois has created a water commission which is established at the University at Urbana, and is doing perhaps more than any other state in the rigid and scientific investigation and control of the state waters. The President of the University is the head of the organization, and the Director is Dr. Edward Bartow. A report is made annually of the activities of this Survey. The last report shows a praiseworthy activity along all the lines of investigation looking to improving the water supplies of the state. It is the purpose of this Survey to examine all the principal waters, and in this particular report there is an extended study of the water of the Sangamon River and its tributaries. Another interesting part of the report is that relating to the disposal of sewage along the northern branch of the Chicago River and its tributaries.
