The principal tea-producing countries are China, Japan, Java, India, Ceylon, Sumatra and Formosa, now a possession of Japan. Attempts to grow tea have been made in the United States, as will be mentioned further on, but our dear labor will long prevent us from being competitors with the nations of the Orient.
In the United States tea has been produced only experimentally in gardens near Charleston, S. C.
