Brown rice as you would the coffee bean, and then either grind or mash in the mortar; take half a cup of the ground rice, and pour about a quart of boiling water over it and let it stand about ten or fifteen minutes; then strain and sweeten with loaf sugar and season with boiled milk. Drink of this freely. This is particularly nice for children.
Let one quart of fresh milk come to a boil, and then stir in one tablespoonful of flour, which has been mixed with milk enough 'to make a smooth paste; boil this mixture thirty minutes, being careful not to let it burn. Season with salt and strain. The patient should be kept warm and quiet.
