Sugar Cookies

1/2 cup butter 1 cup sugar 1 egg 1/4 cup milk.

2 1/4 cup flour.

2 teaspoons baking powder.

1/2 teaspoon salt.

1/3 teaspoon vanilla.

Cream butter with sugar; add egg; milk and dry ingredients (sifted together). Roll thin and bake in moderate oven.

Swedish Cookies

1 1/2 cups sugar 1/2 cup butter.

1 cup sour cream.

2 eggs, well beaten.

1 teaspoon baking powder.

Flour - about 5 cups, enough so that mixture will not stick to board.

1 teaspoon flavoring -vanilla or lemon.

1 teaspoon soda.

Cream butter and sugar, add eggs. Sift baking powder and soda with flour and add to mixture alternately with sour cream. Sprinkle cookies with sugar. Bake 10 minutes in a quick oven.

Swedish Cookies

1 cup of brown sugar.

1 cup of granulated sugar.

1 cup of butter or fat.

2 eggs.

3 1/2 cups flour.

1 cup nuts.

1/4 cup hot water with 1 tea-spoonful soda dissolved in it.

1/4 teaspoonful salt.

1 teaspoonful vanilla.

Form dough into a roll, let stand over night, or for several hours in ice box, slice, and bake in moderate oven.

Fudge Squares

3 tablespoons butter.

1 egg.

1 cup flour.

1 teaspoon baking powder.

1/2 cup walnuts.

1 cup sugar 1/3 cup milk.

2 tablespoons cocoa 1/4 teaspoon salt.

1 teaspoon vanilla.

Melt the butter, add sugar and egg unbeaten. Add nuts with the cocoa, flour, salt, and baking powder which have been sifted altogether. Add the milk alternately with the dry ingredients. Put in shallow pan and bake in moderate oven. Cut in squares before removing from pan.

Nut Cookies

1 cup brown sugar.

1/2 cup melted shortening.

1 egg.

1/2 cup sweet milk.

2 squares chocolate, melted.

1/4 teaspoon soda.

1 teaspoon baking powder, sifted with 1 1/2 cups flour 1 cup nut meats.

Drop with spoon and bake in hot oven.

Chocolate Cookies

1 cup sugar 3/4 cup milk 1 beaten egg.

1/2 cup butter.

1/2 teaspoon soda (in milk).

1 1/2 cups flour.

2 squares melted chocolate.

Make as cake. Drop from a spoon on greased pan. Bake in moderate oven.

Frost as follows: 1 cup sugar Butter size of egg.

6 tablespoons water 2 squares chocolate.

Cook until it sticks together in water (like fudge) - beat and spread before too thick. Add yolk of egg, beaten in slowly when frosting is partly cold.
