Wash and snip ends of 1 1/2 pounds green beans. Lay beans on cutting board and cut in 1-inch lengths.
In covered saucepan heat about 1 inch salted water to boiling.
Add beans and bring to boil, then turn down heat and cook slowly about 15 minutes or until tender.
Drain any extra water and add 1 tablespoon butter.
4 servings.

Corn on the Cob
Just before cooking, remove husks and silks.
In covered saucepan, heat about 1 inch water to boiling.
Put a few inner husks on the bottom of the pan and lay corn on top. Cook 3 to 6 minutes, depending on the size and age of the corn.
A little sugar helps the flavor of older corn.
