Ice your cake with Butter Icing (page 25). Decorate with wafer-thin round candies in different colors.
Draw faces on each with a mixture of
1/4 cup confectioners sugar 1 teaspoon milk
Icing is best when it is as soft as possible, but it must hold its shape without running off the cake.
Spread a little along the inside of the mixing bowl with the back of your mixing spoon and see whether or not it is ready to use or needs more confectioners' sugar or liquid added.
When you are going to ice a layer cakeTurn one layer upside down on cake plate.
Put on a big spoonful of icing and spread it to the edge of the layer.
Set second layer on, right side up.
Ice the sides, spreading up from bottom to top with knife full of frosting.
Put rest of icing on top and swirl it around to decorate.
"Icing the sides is tricky so I just ice the top. When I get more practice I'll do the sides, too." - Ricky
