No. 645. - Cumin, though a native of Egypt, may be successfully grown in the Southern or Middle States. The plant is cultivated for its seed, which is carminative and is used the same as caraway and coriander, and for flavoring a liqueur called Kummel. It is a tender, annual plant. Its seeds are long and furrowed, and of a pale brownish color. It requires a light, warm, loamy soil. Sow in May in drills fourteen inches apart and half an inch deep. When the plants are well up trim them to three inches apart in the lines.
