Mauve. Malve.

No. 842. - Mallow is an annual plant that was introduced from Europe, and which grows spontaneously in gardens when once cultivated. The stems are frequently more than six feet in height. The leaves, which are of a rich green color, are nearly five inches in diameter and are smooth, lobed and beautifully frilled or curled on the borders. No part of the plant is considered suitable for food, but the beautiful leaves are used for garnishing desserts. Sow the seeds about the first of May, covering them with one inch of soil. The plant requires much space.
