Five eggs beaten light, one teacup of sugar, four table-spoonsful of corn starch mixed in a little cold milk and added to the eggs and sugar. Boil three pints of milk, pour it over the eggs, and stir while boiling until it becomes thick. Flavor with vanilla, and pour into a baking dish. Beat the whites of the eggs with a teacupful of sugar. Pour it over the top, and return it to the oven to brown.
The sauce is as follows: Take the yolks of two eggs, one cup of sugar, one tablespoonful of butter. Beat all together, and add a cup of boiling milk. Put it on the fire, let it come to a boil, and flavor with vanilla.
