1 quart barley or rye flour
1 quart pastry flour
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons soda 4 tspns. baking powder 2 tspns. mace or nutmeg 1 tablespoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups raisins
1 cup preserved ginger
1 cup blanched almonds
2 cups molasses
1 1/2 to 2 cups oil or fat
8 well-beaten eggs
Sift together the dry ingredients. Slice ginger and chop almonds very fine, and add these with raisins to first mixture. Heat fat and molasses to boiling point, and stir into dry mixture. Add eggs and beat well. Bake in loaf or sheet in moderate oven.
