2 cups of scalded milk. 1 teaspoonful of salt. 2 tablespoonfuls of shortening. 1/3 to 3 whole yeast cakes. 2 tablespoonfuls of sugar. 1/2 cup of lukewarm water. 6 or more cups of flour.
Pour the milk over the shortening, sugar, and salt in the bowl; when cooled to a lukewarm temperature add the yeast, softened and mixed with the lukewarm water, and stir in the flour; follow th directions given under "kneading." Wash dry and butter the bowls, put in the dough and set aside covered. Finish according to directions previously given.
