Chocolate Cake I

2 eggs 1 cup sugar 1 cup flour 1/2 cup milk 1 teaspoon cream of tartar.

1/2 teaspoon soda.

1 1/2 squares chocolate, melted 1/2 cup butter (1/8 lb.) 1 teaspoon vanilla.

Melt together butter and chocolate add to sugar, add eggs beaten, flour mixed and sifted with cream of tartar, and soda. Add milk, and vanilla. Beat three minutes or more. Bake one-half hour in medium oven (375°). Makes a square cake or two layers.

Chocolate Cake II

4 eggs.

1/2 cups butter \1/2 cups sugar 2 squares chocolate.

5 tablespoons boiling water.

1/2 cup sweet milk.

1 3/4 cups Swans Down.

Flour 1 heaping teaspoon.

Royal Baking Powder vanilla Salt.

Cream together sugar and butter, beat in egg yolks, and chocolate dissolved in boiling water, then milk, flour - sifted with baking powder - stiffly beaten egg whites, vanilla and salt.

Chocolate Sour Cream Cake

1 cup sugar 1 3/4 scant cups flour 1/2 teaspoon soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder.

2 tablespoons chocolate or cocoa 2 teaspoons vanilla.

1 cup sour cream.

2 eggs.

Sift dry ingredients, add liquids and beat all together thoroughly. Bake in angel food tin.

Devil's Food

2 cups sugar.

1/2 cup buttermilk.

2 eggs.

1/4 cup grated chocolate.

1 cup hot water.

1 large teaspoon soda.

2 cups flour.

1 teaspoon vanilla.

Mix in order given, dissolving chocolate in the hot water, beat thoroughly and bake in a slow oven. Use White Frosting. (Note: May be baked in layers).
