Magnolia (Fig. 250), has a wood so closely resembling that of the tulip whitewood as to be frequently used for similar purposes.

(Baillon.) -Tree growing 24 m. tall; leaves evergreen; flowers white, fragrant; fruit rusty brown; seeds bright red, dangling on threads. Native home, North Carolina to Texas.
