Some authors (Politzer, Eitelberg) recommend massage for certain affections of the ear, and in my practice I have often been able to relieve se\ pain, in cases of otitis, by massage only, in the form of centripetal strokings over the mastoid process and the corresponding side of the neck, as recommended by Gerst.
In a few cases local massage has been applied to the ear with good results (Meyer and Lautenbach).
