Take a piece of clean old linen or muslin large enough to cover the affected part. Thoroughly wet with cold water. Keep constantly wet by redipping in the cold water, or by gently squeezing out a wet sponge on the cloth, so as to keep it wet without dripping. The latter plan is the better, as it causes no disturbance of the parts beneathde-an important consideration in many cases.
