Inflammation Of The Umbilical Veins Of Newborn Infants - a phenomenon somewhat frequently combined with ulceration of the navel, and accompanied by erysipelatous redness of the skin of the abdomen, very often with jaundice, and not unfrequently with peritonitis - never, on the other hand, is followed by secondary processes of capillary phlebitis. In this respect Duplay's opinion coincides with my own. Its products, therefore, in consequence of this circumstance, do not produce any infection of the blood, which is doubtless owing to the fact, that no circulation takes place through this vein after birth.
