When this difficulty Is the result of diphtheria, recovery usually takes place within a few weeks without treatment of any sort. Recovery is greatly facilitated, however, by the local application of faradic electricity. Applications may be made externally with sponges, and internally by means of electrodes adapted to the purpose. Gargling hot and cold water alternately is also of some advantage.
