Origin. - A liquid composed of not less than 92.5 per cent. by weight of absolute sulphuric acid (H1SO4 = 97.82) and not more than 7.5 per cent. of water.
Description and Properties. - A colorless liquid of oily consistence, inodorous, and very caustic and corrosive. Specific gravity not below 1.826 at 25o C. (77o F.). Miscible in all proportions with water and alcohol, with evolution of so much heat that the mixing requires great caution. Sulphuric acid should be kept in glass-stoppered bottles.
Acidum Sulphuricum Aromaticum - Acidi Sulphurici Aromatici - Aromatic Sulphuric Acid. - Formula: Sulphuric acid, no; tincture of ginger, 50; oil of cinnamon, I; alcohol to make 1000 parts.
Dose. - 5-20 minims (0.3-1.2 Cc.) [15 minims (1 Cc), U. S. P.].
Acidum Sulphuricum Dilutum - Acidi Sulphurici Diluti - Diluted Sulphuric Acid. - Diluted sulphuric acid contains 10 per cent. by weight of absolute sulphuric acid.
Dose. - 5-20 minims (0.3-1.2 Cc.) [30 minims (2 Cc), U. S. P.].
