Separated during the rectification of crude spirit and re-distilled at from 2500 to 2600 F.; 121. 1° to 126.6° C.
A colorless, very inflammable, oily liquid, with a peculiar odor. Sp. gr., 0.818.
Amylic Alcohol is used to make Amyl Nitrite.
Uses of Amylic Alcohol.
Fusel oil is a poison, and is not used in medicine. The manufacturers of cinchona alkaloids employ it as a solvent; formerly it was required for the preparation of valerianic acid.
