Latin, Carbo Ligni
Eng., Wood Charcoal. Synonym, Charcoal. Charcoal prepared from soft wood and finely powdered. A black, odorless, tasteless and insoluble powder.
15 grains (1 Gm.).
Absorbent.
Employed in testing intestinal activity and sometimes prescribed for certain forms of dyspepsia. Its medicinal value is questionable.
Charcoal is sometimes employed internally alone or with other agents. It is usually administered in capsules. Not over 5 grains should be ordered to each capsule.
