Latin, Cimicifuga
Eng., Cimicifuga. Synonyms, Black Snake-root, Black Cohosh. The dried rhizome and roots of Cimicifuga racemosa.
15 grains (1 Gm.).
Eng., Extract of Cimicifuga. Average Dose.-4 grains (0.25 Gm.).
Eng., Fluidextract of Cimicifuga. Average Dose.-15 minims (1 mil).
Has been classed as a simple bitter, mild cardiac stimulant, alterative and emmenagogue.
Has been used for chorea, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, and some other conditions.
Cimicifuga or its preparations are seldom prescribed as such. The drug is used in some unofficial preparations that are sometimes employed.
