Latin, Cotarninae Hydrochloridum (Gen., Cotarninae Hydro-Chloridi)
Eng., Cotarnine Hydrochloride. Synonym, Stypticin The hydrochloride of a synthetic alkaloid obtained from narcotine.
Yellow powder.
Practically odorless and tasteless.
Very soluble in water or alcohol; deliquescent.
1 grain (0.06 Gm.).
Hemostatic.
Used to aid in arresting hemorrhage, as pulmonary, uterine, etc.; also in the treatment of purpura hemorrhagica.
Usually prescribed alone in capsules.
