Latin, Guaiacum (Gen., Guaiaci)
Eng., Guaiac. The resin of the wood of Guaiacum officinale or of Guaiacum sanctum. Average Dose.-15 grains (1 Gm.).
Eng., Tincture of Guaiac. Represents 20 per cent. of the drug in alcohol.
1 fluidrachm (4 mils).
Eng., Ammoniated Tincture of Guaiac. Represents 20 per cent. of the drug in Aromatic Spirit of Ammonia. Average Dose.-30 minims (2 mils).
Classed as an alterative, diaphoretic, laxative, etc.
Recommended for tonsillitis, rheumatism and related conditions. A valuable reagent in testing for blood.
Seldom prescribed. The taste is usually considered very disagreeable.
