Latin, Methylthioninae Chloridum
Eng., Methylthionine Chloride. Synonym, Methylene Blue, Methylthioninae Hydrochloridumi (U. S. P., viii).
A dark-green, crystalline powder or crystals having a bronze-like luster.
Readily soluble in water and somewhat less readily in alcohol, the solution having a deep-blue color.
2l/2 grains (0.15 Gm.).
Classed as a diuretic, urinary antiseptic, etc.
Sometimes employed in the treatment of gonorrhea, cystitis, pyelitis, and other conditions.

Usually prescribed in capsules, either alone or with other agents. A convenient form is the ready-filled capsule, either hard or soft, put out by the pharmaceutical manufacturing houses. They may be obtained containing the drug alone or in various combinations.
