Latin, Sabal
Eng., Sabal. Synonym, Saw Palmetto. The partially dried ripe fruit of Serenoa serrulata. Average Dose.-15 grains (1 Gm.).
Eng., Fluidextract of Sabal. Average Dose.-15 minims (1 mil).
Diuretic, expectorant.
Sabal is a constituent of some of the popular pharmaceutical preparations for genito-urinary diseases, as cystitis, urethritis, etc. It is also recommended for chronic bronchitis, asthma, etc.
The most frequently used preparation is the Elixir of Saw Palmetto and Santal Co., which is prescribed alone.
