Latin, Sinapis Nigra
Eng., Black Mustard. Synonym, Brown Mustard. The seed of Brassica nigra.
Emetic, 2 1/2 drachms (10 Gm.).
Official Preparations and Constituents.
Eng., Mustard Plaster. Synonyms, Charta Sinapis, Mustard Paper (U. S. P., viii). A uniform mixture of powdered black mustard (deprived of its fixed oil) and a solution of rubber, spread on paper, cotton cloth, or other fabric.
Eng., Volatile Oil of Mustard. Synonym, Essential Oil of Mustard.
1/8 minim (0.008 mil).
Emetic, rubefacient, vesicant. Uses.-See Sinapis Alba. The oil is a constituent of many proprietary liniments. It is a powerful irritant.
