Eng., Monohydrated Sodium Carbonate. Formula, Na2CO3 + H2O. Form.-A white powder.
Odorless. A strongly alkaline taste. Solubility.-In 3 parts of water. Insoluble in alcohol. Average Dose.-4 grains (025 Gm.).
Seldom used for effect. It is sometimes prescribed in capsules with exsiccated ferrous sulphate so as to form fresh ferrous carbonate in the stomach.
