The fruit of Anamirta cocculus, or Cocculus Indicus (Not official.)
Cocculus. 489.
There are no official preparations except picrotoxin, the active principle. A saturated tincture may be used. Dose, τη ij—τη xv. A fluid extract can be made, and is a useful form for administration. Dose, τη ij—τη x, gradually increased.
The effects of cocculus are due chiefly to the presence in it of a peculiar neutral principle known as picrotoxin. This has been admitted to the Pharmacopoeia, and is therefore official.
